Youths Save Six-Year-Old Girl Choking on Chewing Gum in Kannur; Viral Video Praised by Minister

A six-year-old girl in Pallikkara, Pazhayangadi, Kannur, was saved from choking on chewing gum by a group of quick-thinking youths. The incident, which took place on Tuesday evening, was captured on video and subsequently went viral across social media platforms. Education Minister V. Sivankutty was among those who shared the footage on his Facebook page, commending the youths for their timely intervention.

The dramatic rescue unfolded as the youths had parked their vehicle by the roadside, purchasing vegetables and engaging in conversation. Simultaneously, a CCTV camera recorded a young girl on a small bicycle on the opposite side of the road, placing chewing gum into her mouth. Moments later, the girl began to experience difficulty and, with remarkable presence of mind, approached the nearby youths for assistance. Without hesitation, one of the youths promptly administered first aid, dislodging the obstruction and saving the child’s life.

The heroic act has garnered widespread praise from the public following the video’s dissemination. Commentators have lauded both the young girl’s intelligence in seeking help during a critical moment and the composure and swift action displayed by the youth who intervened.
