Youth Arrested in Thodupuzha Suicide Case After Post-mortem Reveals Sexual Assault
Thodupuzha: Police in Upputhara have arrested a young man in connection with the suicide of a 14-year-old girl. Nikhil Nixon (18), residing at Laundry Mattuppetti Layam, was apprehended by CI Joy Mathew.
The girl had died by suicide on the 24th of last month, leading police to initially register a case of unnatural death. However, the post-mortem examination revealed that the girl had been subjected to sexual assault. Following this crucial finding, POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) charges were added to the unnatural death case, and the investigation was intensified.
During the ongoing probe, several individuals, including Nikhil, were questioned. After 14 hours of interrogation, Nikhil confessed to sexually assaulting the girl after pretending to be in love with her.
The investigating team included SI P.N. Pradeep, Woman ASI Jolly Joseph, and Senior Civil Police Officers Gijo P. Vijayan and P.A. Nishad. The accused was produced before the court and subsequently remanded.
