Young Woman Dies During One-Crore Treatment at Thodupuzha Private Hospital; Relatives Allege Medical Negligence

A young woman, Sumi Mohammed (32), a native of Mattannur, Kannur, has tragically passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thodupuzha, Idukki. Her relatives have come forward vehemently accusing Thodupuzha Smitha Memorial Hospital of medical negligence, specifically alleging the failure of an expensive one-crore TIL (Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes) therapy.
The family’s complaint states that the advanced cancer treatment, TIL therapy, was initiated after the hospital had guaranteed a 60% recovery rate. Despite this assurance, they claim the treatment proved ineffective, leading to a significant deterioration in the patient’s condition. Furthermore, relatives reported that hospital authorities subsequently asked them to discharge the patient. TIL therapy is a cutting-edge method in cancer treatment.
The incident has raised serious questions about the efficacy of the treatment and the standard of care provided at the private medical facility. As of now, the hospital has not issued any statement in response to these serious allegations, prompting calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sumi Mohammed’s death.
