Woman Accused in Deepak’s Suicide Case Absconding After Police Register FIR

Kozhikode: In the tragic case of Deepak (41), a resident of Govindapuram, Kozhikode, who died by suicide following sexual harassment allegations raised against him on social media, the woman accused, Shimjitha Mustafa, is reportedly absconding after the police registered a case.
Kozhikode Medical College Police have intensified their search for Shimjitha Mustafa, a native of Vadakara, Kozhikode. A new First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against her, charging her with abetment to suicide. This action follows a complaint filed by Deepak’s mother, Kanyaka. The allegation of sexually assaulting Shimjitha was originally made through an 18-second video clip posted online.
Shimjitha Mustafa (36) is a former member of the Areekode Grama Panchayat in Malappuram district and holds a position as a local leader of the Muslim League. She had served as a ward member for Velleri West in Areekode Panchayat from 2020 to 2025.
The investigation team is actively working to locate the mobile phone used to record the 18-second video related to the incident that allegedly occurred on a bus. To aid in this effort, cyber police assistance has been sought to analyze the woman’s Instagram account details. Shimjitha’s primary claim was that she had reported the bus incident to the Vadakara police. However, the Vadakara Inspector has officially stated that no such complaint was ever received, thereby confirming that the woman’s assertions regarding the case were false.
Last Friday, Shimjitha had publicly accused Deepak on social media, accompanying her allegations with a video, claiming he had misbehaved with her on a bus during a journey to Kannur. The video quickly went viral, leading to widespread cyber-attacks and severe public condemnation against Deepak. Tragically, Deepak, who was reported to be mentally distressed by the accusations and subsequent online harassment, was found dead at his home on Sunday. Notably, Saturday had been Deepak’s birthday.
Following the incident and Deepak’s death, widespread criticism was directed at Shimjitha. Numerous individuals from various segments of society had vociferously demanded that a case of abetment to suicide be registered against her in connection with Deepak’s untimely demise.
