Veteran BJP Councillor Shyamala S Prabhu Resigns Over Ticket Denial in Kochi

Kochi: Senior BJP leader and former state vice-president, Shyamala S Prabhu, has resigned from the party. Her resignation comes in protest against the stance of the BJP’s local leadership in Mattancherry. Shyamala, who served as a councillor from the Cherlai division for 32 consecutive years, was not allotted a party ticket this time.
Shyamala S Prabhu had earlier alleged that those who engaged in dissident activities against her were being considered as BJP candidates this time, and that she was facing neglect within the party. Her name had been consistently included in all candidate lists for the Kochi Corporation elections since 1988, but the BJP declined to offer her a ticket for the upcoming polls.
In response to her grievances, leaders including P.R. Sivashankaran, acting on instructions from the BJP state president, visited Shyamala’s residence for conciliation talks. However, these discussions did not yield any positive results, leading to her decision to file her nomination as an independent candidate from the Cherlai division in the Kochi Corporation.
