Vellappally Natesan Accuses Journalist of Being a ‘Terrorist’ from Erattupetta

Alappuzha: SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan has stirred controversy by verbally abusing a journalist, branding him a “terrorist” and identifying him as being from Erattupetta. The incident occurred during a press briefing in Sivagiri, where Natesan lashed out at journalist Rahees Rasheed, who had posed questions to him.

Natesan unequivocally stated that the journalist was a “terrorist,” an “Erattupetta native,” and a prominent “spokesperson for Muslims.” He alleged that he had received information indicating the journalist’s involvement in “terrorist activities,” which he cited as the basis for his remarks.

Recounting an “unpleasant experience” from the previous day, Natesan expressed his disappointment with the media’s conduct. “I am 89 years old, and the media surrounded me without showing any courtesy. I am old enough to be the reporter’s grandfather, but he showed no respect. This reporter came at me like he had a spear. I know him; he is from Erattupetta, a terrorist, an MSF activist, and a big spokesperson for Muslims. Someone sent him,” Natesan asserted. He further linked the journalist’s questions to the absence of SNDP-run schools and colleges in Malappuram, noting that Muslim League has 48 unaided colleges there.

When pressed by other journalists on whether his accusation of “terrorist” was based on the journalist’s name or prior involvement in such activities, Natesan responded curtly, “I have knowledge.” He became visibly agitated with continued questioning, telling reporters, “Who are you? Don’t act so tough… Don’t play around, don’t intimidate me. I received information that he (the journalist) is a terrorist, and I spoke based on that. Should I throw this away, or will you take it? Don’t show your horns here; just listen to what I’m saying. This has been going on for a long time. You can’t do a thing.”

Natesan reiterated that his claims about the journalist’s “terrorist activities” were based on direct knowledge and his experience, stating, “I know about his terrorist activities. I will clarify it when the time is right. It’s known through his actions. He was an MSF activist. I have that experience. Don’t ask more questions.”
