UAPA Invoked Against Mother and Stepfather in Thiruvananthapuram for Instigating 15-Year-Old to Join ISIS

The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) has been invoked against a mother and her stepfather in Thiruvananthapuram for allegedly instigating a 15-year-old boy to join the terrorist organization ISIS. The incident occurred within the Venjaramoodu police station limits. The woman, her husband, and the child had been residing in the UK since 2021.
According to the case, a man from Pandalam married a Christian woman from Pathanamthitta after her religious conversion. Subsequently, Ansar, a friend from Vembayam, allegedly instigated the woman’s son from her first marriage to join ISIS. It is further alleged that Ansar attempted to influence the boy by showing him video footage when he arrived in the UK. The child stated that his biological father expressed displeasure over his increasing adherence to extreme religious practices, leading to his mother distancing herself from his father.
Upon returning to India, the woman and her friend placed the child in an orphanage within the Attingal police station jurisdiction. However, noticing a change in the child’s behavior, the orphanage authorities informed the child’s maternal relatives. The case was registered after these relatives approached the police.
UAPA charges were filed under the leadership of the Attingal Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP). The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also gathering information regarding the incident.
