‘Two-Rupee Doctor’ A.K. Rairu Gopal Passes Away at 80
Beloved Physician Known for Treating Patients for Just Two Rupees for Half a Century
Dr. A.K. Rairu Gopal, a widely respected and beloved physician from Kannur, passed away at the age of 80 due to age-related ailments. For nearly half a century, Dr. Rairu Gopal was known for treating patients at his clinic near Thana Manikkakavu for a nominal fee of just two rupees. His clinic was a beacon of hope for countless poor patients.
Dr. Rairu Gopal used to examine patients from 4 AM to 4 PM daily, a schedule he later adjusted to 6 AM to 4 PM for some time. He practiced for 35 years at his home near Thalapp LIC office before moving to ‘Lakshmi’ house near Thana Manikkakavu, where he continued to treat patients for about 10 years. People of all ages, from children to the elderly, sought his treatment. He was also known for providing free medicines to those facing financial difficulties, and patients from outside the district would also visit his clinic.
