Trinamool Congress Seeks Ban on ‘Grass and Flowers’ Symbol for P.V. Anvar in Local Body Elections

Malappuram: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) state unit has formally requested the State Election Commission to freeze its ‘Grass and Flowers’ election symbol for the upcoming local body elections. The AITC state unit approached the Election Commission citing “internal irregularities” within the party.

Authorities within the Commission have indicated that the Trinamool symbol will be frozen soon. The AITC state unit has further urged the Commission to promptly inform all returning officers regarding the suspension of the symbol.

This decisive action by the AITC is widely interpreted as an attempt to prevent state convener P.V. Anvar from utilizing the ‘Grass and Flowers’ symbol. The move comes amidst significant and deep-seated disagreements between Anvar and the party’s official faction.

In a detailed letter submitted to the Commission, AITC State President C.G. Unni enumerated several critical reasons for their request. These include the party’s inability to field candidates due to the absence of official district committees, the central leadership’s failure to approve the opening of two essential bank accounts, the lack of a launched statewide membership drive, and the non-conductance of internal elections as mandated by the AITC constitution.
