Suicide Note Blames NRI Son-in-Law for Mother and Daughter’s Death in Thiruvananthapuram

A heart-wrenching suicide note has surfaced following the tragic deaths of a mother and daughter in Kamaleswaram, Thiruvananthapuram. The note contains grave allegations against the daughter’s husband, accusing him of six years of mental harassment and neglect, which allegedly led to their drastic decision.

S.L. Sajitha (54), wife of the late Rajeev, and her daughter Greema S. Raj (30) were discovered dead at their residence in Shanti Gardens, near Aryankuzhi, on Wednesday. The allegations are primarily directed at the son-in-law, Unnikrishnan, who works abroad but is reportedly in India at present.

The daughter, Greema, was married six years ago but lived with Unnikrishnan for a mere 25 days. The suicide note poignantly states that Unnikrishnan abandoned Greema “like a used dress,” despite her desperate pleas. It further highlights that there were no significant reasons for the separation, only trivial issues. The note expresses the unbearable burden of humiliation that drove them to this extreme step.

In a distressing declaration, the note proclaims that all their property is cursed with a woman’s sorrow, explicitly stating that neither Unni nor his brothers should inherit it. Greema’s personal inscription in the note indicated that she and her mother would prefer the property be given to her mother’s brothers.

As part of the dowry, 200 sovereigns of gold, a house, and land were provided at the time of the marriage. Sajitha’s husband, Rajeev, had passed away recently. The one-page suicide note, signed by both Sajitha and Greema, also mentioned that they ended their lives by consuming cyanide.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sajitha and her daughter had sent a final message to a family WhatsApp group. The message cited ongoing problems in the daughter’s marital life and the unbearable humiliation stemming from the son-in-law’s abandonment as the reasons for their suicide.

Relatives have confirmed that Unnikrishnan is employed in Ireland. They also recounted that Greema had confided in them about being mentally harassed by her husband. Recently, at a post-funeral ceremony, Unnikrishnan had reportedly discussed the possibility of divorce. This conversation, coupled with the existing humiliation, is believed to have pushed the mother and daughter to take their own lives.

The bodies of both women were found on the sofa on the ground floor of their house. The Poothura police have registered a case of suicide, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday.
