Social Media Influencer and Ex-NDA Candidate Sparks Outrage with Rape Incitement Video
Thodupuzha: A social media influencer has sparked widespread condemnation by calling for the rape of women. This comes in the wake of the suicide of Deepak, a Kozhikode native, who ended his life following allegations of sexual harassment on a bus.
The individual in question, Ajay Marar, also known as Ajay Unni, was an NDA candidate in the recent local elections from Thodupuzha Municipality. He made his provocative call for sexual violence through a video posted online.
Deepak, a resident of Kozhikode, was discovered dead by suicide at his home last Sunday. The incident followed public accusations made by Shimjitha Mumtaz, also from Kozhikode, who alleged that Deepak had behaved inappropriately with her on a bus. A video detailing her allegations quickly went viral on social media, subjecting Deepak to intense cyber-attacks. It is believed that Deepak took his own life due to the distress caused by this widespread cyberbullying.
In the aftermath of Deepak’s death, several social media influencers came out in his support. Among them, Ajay Unni, a YouTuber from Thodupuzha and a former BJP candidate in the local elections, posted on social media advocating for the rape of women who record such videos. He also made derogatory remarks against individuals who had expressed support for Shimjitha Mumtaz.
Marar further asserted that men would continue to encounter such negative experiences from women. He controversially stated that if a man ever found himself in a situation where he felt compelled to die, he should instead choose to commit rape. These highly inflammatory remarks have drawn extensive criticism and outrage across various social media platforms. Thodupuzha Police have confirmed that an investigation will be launched, and a case will be registered after a thorough review of the video content.
