Sandeep Varier Marks One Year Since Joining Congress, Expresses Joy

Sandeep G. Varier, a prominent political figure, has marked the first anniversary of his decision to join the Indian National Congress, following his departure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Varier took to Facebook to express his happiness, stating, “It was a year ago today that I took the most important decision of my life and implemented it. It has been a year since I became a Congressman with dignity and self-respect. A thousand thanks to the great movement called the Indian National Congress and my colleagues for giving me a lifetime of love and support during this one year.” The post garnered significant attention, with numerous supporters extending their greetings and encouragement in the comments section.
Varier, formerly a state committee member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, officially joined the Congress party on November 16, 2024, in Palakkad. His defection came after a prolonged period of dispute with the BJP state leadership, reportedly stemming from feelings of humiliation and neglect within the party.
The timing of his move, just four days before the Palakkad assembly by-election, sent ripples through political circles, surprising many observers.
His entry into the Congress was notably dramatic. Varier unexpectedly arrived at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office in Palakkad during a press conference being held by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) leaders. He was officially welcomed by a host of senior Congress figures, including State President K. Sudhakaran, Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan, and All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Deepa Das Munshi.
Amidst enthusiastic demonstrations from party workers, Varier did not hold back in his public criticism of the BJP, controversially describing it as a “hate factory” that perpetually generates animosity. He also articulated his profound disappointment with what he perceived as “constant compromises between the BJP leadership and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.” Furthermore, Varier openly shared his disillusionment over the lack of anticipated support and care he felt he should have received from the BJP during his tenure with them.
