Sabarimala Dwajapalaka Idol Sold to Billionaire, Opposition Demands Answers from CPM

Thiruvananthapuram, October 7, 2025 – Opposition leader V D Satheesan has leveled serious allegations, claiming that the Dwajapalaka idol from the revered Sabarimala temple was sold for crores of rupees to a wealthy individual in Kerala. Speaking to the media, Satheesan asserted that the High Court has effectively validated the opposition’s accusations, intensifying calls for accountability.

“To which billionaire in the state was the Dwajapalaka idol sold? In whose house is it currently located?” questioned Satheesan, highlighting the clandestine nature of the transaction. He emphasized that a multi-crore deal had transpired, and crucially, the court’s findings confirmed the sale of the sacred idol. Satheesan further alleged that the Devaswom Board was aware of this “theft,” questioning the integrity of those in charge. “How many thieves are at the helm?” he demanded, pointing fingers at the administration.

Satheesan also stated that the inquiry should not be limited to Unnikrishnan Potti, the individual allegedly involved in the sale. He contended that influential figures within the Devaswom Board and the state government who colluded in this act would also be implicated in the case. He suggested that despite knowing the gravity of the situation, the matter was intentionally suppressed. “The government, fully aware of these facts, has paradoxically recalled Unnikrishnan Potti in 2025 for yet another alleged ‘theft’,” Satheesan added, suggesting a pattern of complicity.

The opposition leader strongly urged the immediate resignation of the Devaswom Minister and the dismissal of the Devaswom Board President. Satheesan revealed an email allegedly sent by Unnikrishnan Potti to N Vasu, a close associate of the CPM, proposing the sale of remaining gold to fund a wedding. “N Vasu, being a close confidant of the CPM, is privy to all these details. Everything is being concealed. The Dwajapalaka idol was sold for crores, and the CPM must disclose its current whereabouts,” Satheesan declared, intensifying pressure on the ruling party.

Expressing a lack of faith in the current government’s ability to conduct a fair investigation, the opposition advocated for a CBI inquiry. Satheesan pointed out that the High Court’s stance, where it did not ask the government to propose a special investigation team, implicitly indicates its distrust in the government and police. He noted that the court went as far as to designate the members of the special investigation team, underscoring its determination to ensure an unbiased probe.

“We are not opposed to an investigation being conducted under the court’s supervision,” Satheesan clarified. He reiterated the opposition’s core demands for the Devaswom Minister’s resignation and the removal of the Devaswom Board. Satheesan concluded by vowing that vigorous protests would continue both inside and outside the legislative assembly over the alarming discovery that the Sabarimala Dwajapalaka idol was sold for astronomical sums with the purported consent of the Devaswom Board and the government.
