Rahul Mamkootathil Denied Anticipatory Bail in Rape and Abortion Case
Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil has been denied anticipatory bail in a case where he is accused of raping a young woman and forcing her to undergo an abortion. The Thiruvananthapuram Principal Sessions Court rejected his request after the prosecution presented additional evidence during a 25-minute argument on the bail plea today.
The charges against Mamkootathil have escalated following the registration of a second FIR by the police, based on a new rape complaint.
To ensure a thorough investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted under the leadership of DYSP Sajeevan. Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner Thomson Jose will be overseeing the investigation.
This second inquiry follows Mamkootathil’s previous approach to the Thiruvananthapuram Principal Sessions Court for anticipatory bail in a similar case, which was registered by Nemam police last Thursday.
