Prime Minister Modi to Visit Thiruvananthapuram on January 23; To Announce City Development Plan and Flag Off New Trains

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Thiruvananthapuram this Friday, January 23rd. He will spend approximately two hours in the state, participating in a series of events organized by both the Indian Railways and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Putharikandam Maidan in East Fort.

The Prime Minister is expected to land at the Thiruvananthapuram airport at 10:30 AM. His itinerary includes the flag-off ceremony for four new train services by the Railway, the official announcement of the Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation’s urban development document, and a public meeting organized by the BJP.

A dedicated venue with seating for 500 people has been prepared near the main stage for the railway-related events. Prime Minister Modi will attend the railway program from 10:45 AM to 11:20 AM, where he will inaugurate the four new trains and various other railway projects. One of the rakes for the Amrit Bharat train service, set to commence from Thiruvananthapuram, has already been brought to the Thiruvananthapuram North Railway Station.

Following the railway segment, the Prime Minister will participate in the BJP’s event at the same venue. During this ceremony, he is slated to unveil the capital development plan for the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, a significant announcement given that the BJP achieved its first administrative control in the city’s corporation. The BJP public meeting, commencing after a 15-minute interval, will see the attendance of Panchayat-level office bearers from Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, and Kollam districts.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to depart for Chennai at 12:40 PM. In a related development, the BJP plans to organize a five-day urban development conclave in February. This conclave aims to introduce and implement successful development models from other Indian cities in Thiruvananthapuram. Mayors from cities that have successfully implemented such model projects, along with representatives from the central government, are expected to participate. There are indications that the Prime Minister might visit Thiruvananthapuram again next month in connection with this initiative.

Initially, the Central Stadium was considered as the venue for these events. However, the state government denied permission, citing the Republic Day parade scheduled for January 26 at the stadium. Consequently, Putharikandam Maidan was finalized to host both the railway and BJP programs.
