Police File Case Against UDF Workers for Allegedly Throwing Explosives During Perambra Clash

Kozhikode: The Perambra police have registered a case against workers of the United Democratic Front (UDF) for allegedly throwing an explosive device during a clash in Perambra. The incident prompted an investigation by the Perambra Police following allegations from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) that UDF workers targeted police personnel with an explosive during the confrontation.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the explosive was hurled with the intent to endanger lives and detonated with a powerful sound amidst the police officers present at the scene. Visual evidence examined by the police reportedly confirms that UDF workers threw bottles at the police, and an explosion is clearly visible in these recordings. The Perambra police further noted that the nature of the explosion captured in the visuals does not correspond with the deployment of standard police grenades or tear gas.

The clash also resulted in injuries to Member of Parliament Shafi Parambil, who was subjected to a lathi charge. A controversy erupted when the Rural SP disclosed that the lathi charge against Congress leaders, including MP Parambil, was carried out without explicit orders from superior officers. The Rural SP had previously stated that those responsible for instigating trouble would be identified and appropriate action would be taken. Currently, approximately 700 individuals, including Shafi Parambil, have had cases registered against them in connection with the Perambra conflict.
