Orphaned Vijith Receives a Home of Love Through Community Effort in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: Friends have brought the sweetness of love into the life of Vijith, which was once filled with the bitterness of orphanhood. His loved ones are together building a home of love for him, who has no one else. The members of the Social Justice and Women and Child Development Department Employees Cooperative Society in Poojappura took the initiative to build a house for Vijith. Kerala NGO Union General Secretary M.V. Sasidharan laid the foundation stone for Vijith’s house at a simple ceremony held in Madathukkonam, Kattakkada.

A few years ago, Vijith arrived at the Society’s office in Poojappura. Ranjith, a caretaker from a juvenile home, had approached them with a young man, requesting a small-income job and a place for him to stay. This young man was Vijith, whose life had come to a standstill after the passing of his only remaining relative, his grandmother. It was then that Ranjith stepped forward to help.

Vijith’s plight moved the leaders of the cooperative society. After discussions, they arranged a temporary small job for him at the society’s office and accommodation there. His dignified conduct and dedication to work soon made Vijith dear to everyone. The cooperative society became his home, and its members became his family.

The thought of securing a future for Vijith arose in the minds of those present. After the agenda of a board meeting concluded, Chairman Shibu informally brought up the matter. He suggested that arrangements should be made to build a house for Vijith, emphasizing that if a generous person provided land, they could manage to build a house.

Though Shibu expressed his suggestion with some apprehension, a female board member took it very seriously. To everyone’s surprise, she informed the board of her willingness to donate land for Vijith. Her only condition was that she did not wish for any publicity. Subsequent procedures proceeded very quickly. The land measurement, demarcation of the path, and registration of the deed were all completed.

Following this, the dream of a house is now becoming a reality. The foundation stone was laid on Thursday. According to tradition, a pinch of gold is placed along with the stone, and this was provided by the father of the female board member who donated the land.

The construction activities for Vijith’s house will be overseen by the administrative committee led by the Kerala NGO Union and KGOA. NGO Union State Vice President S. Gopakumar, South District Secretary Shinu Robert, District President G. Ullas Kumar, and Employees’ Society office bearers S. Shibu, C. Satheesh Sathyanesan, Venunayar R., and Chithra T. led the foundation stone laying ceremony. The Union plans to complete the construction and hand over the keys very soon.
