NSS Withdraws from Unity Talks with SNDP, Citing Political Motives; Thushar Vellappally Was Told Not to Attend

Perunna: NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair announced that the Nair Service Society (NSS) has withdrawn from unity efforts with the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP Yogam) after discerning political motives behind the initiative. He highlighted that certain actions, including SNDP General Secretary Vellappally Natesan dispatching his son Thushar Vellappally for discussions, had fueled these suspicions.

Sukumaran Nair confirmed his earlier statements advocating for the unification of two significant Hindu organizations. However, he subsequently became aware that those proposing the unity had underlying political agendas. He explicitly stated that Vellappally Natesan had been informed in advance that Thushar Vellappally’s presence at the discussions was not required.

“We realized that there were political moves behind it. ‘Samadooram’ (equidistance from all political parties) is one of our fundamental values, and we will not compromise on it. I myself moved the resolution to withdraw from the unity efforts. A father sending his son – why send an NDA leader to us when speaking of unity? Their approach made us suspicious,” Sukumaran Nair elaborated on the decision.

He further added that even if Vellappally Natesan had chosen to come in person, the NSS would have directly communicated its clear stance. Sukumaran Nair also remarked positively on Vellappally Natesan receiving the Padma Bhushan award.

Addressing reports of internal disagreements within the NSS board concerning the unity efforts, Sukumaran Nair emphatically denied any dissent. He asserted that the decision was reached unanimously by all members, with no opposition or differing opinions expressed during the NSS Director Board meeting. Sukumaran Nair affirmed that the NSS is well-equipped to function independently and is currently unwilling to pursue unity. He questioned the true beneficiaries of the SNDP’s current discourse and attributed the reasons for the withdrawal from unity to the SNDP’s own actions. He concluded by reiterating the NSS’s constant vigilance to avoid missteps, emphasizing that all its actions are anchored in the principle of ‘Samadooram’. Sukumaran Nair also affirmed that the NSS would continue to foster friendly relationships with all community, religious, and political organizations.
