Nilambur By-election Sparked by ‘Biggest Betrayal,’ Says CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today stated that the current by-election in the Nilambur assembly constituency was necessitated by “the biggest betrayal.” The Chief Minister made this criticism without explicitly naming former MLA P.V. Anvar, while inaugurating the election convention of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate, M. Swaraj, in Nilambur.

Pinarayi Vijayan highlighted the widespread acceptance received by the LDF candidate, M. Swaraj, not just in the constituency but across the state, immediately after his announcement. “Many people who were not actively involved in LDF programs until now came to greet Swaraj yesterday. This shows that the people have embraced Swaraj’s candidature with a special emotion,” the Chief Minister said.

Praising Swaraj, the Chief Minister affirmed that he is a leader who has maintained a clean image throughout his public service. “He can confidently ask for votes from anyone,” Pinarayi Vijayan asserted.

Referring to Nilambur’s historical significance, the Chief Minister said, “This is the land that witnessed the struggles of Variamkunnath and Comrade Kunhali. It is also the land of those who resorted to betrayal to capture Variamkunnath. We too have been subjected to a betrayal, forcing us to face such an election.” Pinarayi Vijayan expressed strong confidence in the LDF’s victory, stating, “The LDF is approaching this election with great hope for success.”

The Chief Minister concluded by urging voters to elect Swaraj to the Legislative Assembly, emphasizing, “We are waiting for him there.”
