Newborn Dies at Nedumangad Taluk Hospital; Doctor Sent on Forced Leave

Nedumangad: The Health Department has initiated action against a doctor following the tragic death of a newborn during a C-section delivery at Nedumangad Taluk Hospital. Dr. Bindu Sundar, a gynecologist, has been directed to proceed on compulsory leave. The deceased infant was the daughter of Binil Manohar and Niranjana Krishnan, residents of Anappara, Vithura.
This measure by the authorities comes in light of multiple prior complaints against Dr. Bindu. In response to a directive from the Health Minister, an expert team from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College is scheduled to visit the hospital today to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The grieving family alleges that the baby’s death was a result of a delayed surgical procedure. They further claim that the doctor left the hospital without offering any proper explanation after the incident. The family has firmly stated that they will not accept the baby’s body until stringent action is taken against the doctor deemed responsible.
The sequence of events began on Monday morning when Niranjana and her husband arrived at the hospital to present her ninth-month scan report. She was subsequently admitted for delivery. In the early hours of Tuesday, around 4:30 AM, she was moved to the labor room. The C-section was eventually performed at approximately 2 PM. Tragically, the hospital authorities informed the family that the newborn had died immediately after delivery. The family is now demanding a comprehensive inquiry into what they perceive as gross negligence on the part of the hospital staff.
Adding to the gravity of the current situation, Dr. Bindu was already under investigation by both the Health Department and the Police for a severe error that occurred during another previous delivery surgery. That investigation stemmed from a complaint alleging that a patient, who underwent surgery, experienced discharge of bodily waste through her genital area. The latest incident at Nedumangad Taluk Hospital, involving the death of a newborn, has significantly escalated the seriousness of the allegations against the doctor.
