Muslim League Announces Alliance with Welfare Party to Combat Fascism

Thiruvananthapuram: The Muslim League has announced its decision to cooperate with the Welfare Party, the political wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, in upcoming local body elections and other electoral contests. This alliance, according to Muslim League State General Secretary PMA Salam, is aimed at opposing fascist organizations, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Salam stated that the United Democratic Front (UDF) has maintained an understanding with the Welfare Party for an extended period. He further elaborated to Manorama News that the Welfare Party has consistently supported the India Alliance in its efforts to counter the fascist government during previous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, aiding the UDF nationwide. Salam affirmed that similar adjustments and understandings would continue at the local level in the upcoming elections, mirroring past collaborations.
Highlighting the rationale behind the alliance, Salam reiterated that the Welfare Party is aligning with the UDF to resist fascist entities like the BJP. He noted that the Welfare Party’s assistance to the UDF in recent elections is expected to continue in future electoral battles.
In a related development, Salam leveled allegations against prominent Left leaders, claiming to have witnessed several discussions between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and former Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan with Jamaat-e-Islami. He asserted that Vijayan and Balakrishnan, who have previously criticized the UDF over its links with the Welfare Party and Jamaat-e-Islami, had met with Jamaat-e-Islami leaders multiple times at their headquarters, Hira Centre, on Mavoor Road in Kozhikode city. Salam also mentioned that he had often accompanied them during these meetings when he was part of the Left front. He recalled receiving votes from the Welfare Party when he contested as an Indian National League (INL) candidate in Kozhikode city.
Salam further claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami had provided unconditional support to the Left Democratic Front (LDF) for three decades, with the Welfare Party being allied with the LDF during his tenure with the front. He concluded by alleging that the CPM had also attempted to forge an alliance with the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
