Mohanlal’s Mother Santhakumari Amma Passes Away at 90 in Kochi

Kochi: Santhakumari Amma, mother of renowned Malayalam actor Mohanlal, passed away on Tuesday at her residence in Elamakkara, Kochi. She was 90 years old and had been undergoing prolonged treatment following a stroke.

The veteran matriarch, wife of the late Viswanathan Nair, hailed from the Punnakal family in Elanthoor, Pathanamthitta. She is survived by Mohanlal; her eldest son, Pyaarelal, had passed away earlier. The funeral rites are scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

Santhakumari Amma had been a constant source of support for Mohanlal, who dedicated his charitable organization, the Viswasanthi Foundation, by combining the names of his mother and father. Reports previously highlighted her celebrating her birthday from a wheelchair, underscoring her resilience.

Following the demise of his brother and father, Mohanlal had taken on the primary role of caring for his mother. In his absence, his wife Suchitra ensured her well-being. Santhakumari Amma was known to be Mohanlal’s beloved son, and in an interview, she fondly recalled how he would often mimic his early film gestures at home. Her health began to decline significantly after suffering a stroke approximately ten years ago.
