Men’s Commission Announces Aid for Family of Man Who Died by Suicide After Viral Video

Kozhikode: The ‘Men’s Commission’ has announced financial assistance to the family of a young man who died by suicide following the circulation of a video alleging sexual misconduct on a bus. The commission declared that ₹1 lakh would be provided to Deepak’s family. This announcement was made by Rahul Easwar.

Rahul Easwar stated that complaints regarding the issue have been filed with the Chief Minister and the Director General of Police (DGP). He emphasized that the death should not be politicized or communalized, asserting that the suicide was a result of the man’s mental distress. Easwar claimed that those supporting the woman are spreading false propaganda and that a person has been “given up for murder” for the sake of online reach and likes. During an online press conference, he further demanded that Deepak be granted justice as per the law.

Meanwhile, Deepak’s family has come forward, alleging that the woman deliberately filmed and circulated the video, which ultimately pushed Deepak to his death. They have filed a complaint at the Kozhikode Commissioner’s office, demanding that the woman be charged with abetment to suicide. The family had previously indicated their intent to pursue legal action against the woman.

The family maintains that Deepak died by suicide due to the immense mental stress caused by public defamation. They have vowed to fight until justice is served. The Medical College Police have registered a case of unnatural death and have initiated an investigation. Relatives stated that the false allegations raised by the woman caused Deepak significant mental distress. Both relatives and friends affirmed their commitment to pursuing justice for Deepak to the fullest extent.

Deepak was the only son of Ullattuthodi Choyi and Kanyaka. He worked as a sales executive at a private apparel store in East Hill, Kozhikode. On Friday, while traveling by bus after disembarking from a train to Payyanur, Kannur, for work, a woman from Areekode filmed him, alleging that he touched her body with malicious intent. Subsequently, on Saturday, the woman released another video providing an explanation and assessment of the incident. It is understood that Deepak experienced severe mental distress following these events.

Relatives, friends, and the owner of the apparel store where Deepak worked have stated that they have known Deepak for years and that the woman’s continuous allegations were baseless.
