KSRTC Buses Introduce Waste Bins for Cleaner Journeys

Commuters on KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) buses no longer need to worry about disposing of waste during their journey. KSRTC has begun installing waste bins in its buses for items like plastic bottles and covers. The arrangement ensures that waste is removed at the depot where the service concludes. Buses will also display notices reminding passengers not to litter. The installation of these waste bins commenced on Saturday.

Depots will also be equipped with bins and proper waste management systems. A total of 600 bins will be placed at depots, and 2,000 bins have been procured for buses. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with a private financial institution and is part of the ‘Malinyamuktham Nava Keralam’ (Litter-Free New Kerala) campaign. Clean Kerala Company has already removed 104 tonnes of waste from various KSRTC depots.

As part of efforts to prevent waste dumping at KSRTC stands, CCTV cameras have begun to be installed. With cleaner premises, 85 depots have already received certification from the Suchitwa Mission (Cleanliness Mission). CMD Pramoj Shankar stated that efforts are underway for seven more depots to receive certification.
