Kochi Metro Launches New Monthly and Quarterly Passes for Students
Kochi: Kochi Metro has introduced new monthly and quarterly passes for students, which will be effective from July 1. Following continuous requests from educational institutions, student organizations, parents, and students, Kochi Metro has launched a monthly travel pass for students priced at ₹1100.
With this pass, students can make a maximum of 50 trips between any two stations. “The new pass has been introduced after examining various aspects, including persistent requests from different sectors to allow students to travel at subsidized rates. Students will receive a 33 percent discount from the average ticket price through this pass,” stated Loknath Behera, MD of KMRL.
The monthly pass is valid for 30 days from the date of purchase. A quarterly pass is priced at ₹3000 and is valid for three months, allowing for 150 trips. The average daily rate per trip for the quarterly pass is ₹33. For 50 trips, the normal cost would be ₹1650, which is reduced to ₹1100 with the student pass. This means students can save ₹550 per month by opting for the pass. The age limit for obtaining the pass is 30 years.
Students can obtain the pass from various Metro stations starting Tuesday, July 1, by submitting a certificate from their educational institution head, student ID card, and age proof. The student pass is non-transferable and cannot be misused. The amount paid for the pass is non-refundable. Currently, only Nagpur and Pune Metros in India offer discounted travel passes for students.
