Kerala Weather Update: Low-Pressure Area Intensifies, Extremely Heavy Rain Expected; Yellow Alert Issued

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has warned that a cyclonic circulation has strengthened into a low-pressure area, leading to continued rainfall across Kerala. Yellow alerts have been declared for several districts in anticipation of the next five days of rain.
Today, a yellow alert has been issued for the Thiruvananthapuram district, indicating a high probability of heavy rainfall. ‘Heavy rain’ signifies precipitation between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.
The cyclonic circulation, currently situated over the Kanyakumari sea and its adjacent areas, is projected to intensify into a low-pressure area over the Kanyakumari sea, Sri Lanka, and the Southwest Bay of Bengal by tomorrow. This system is expected to move in a north-northwest direction, strengthening into a deep depression within the subsequent 24 hours, and further into a very severe depression in the 24 hours that follow.
Separately, another low-pressure area, which had been located over Malaysia and the Malacca Strait, has already intensified into a deep depression. This system is also anticipated to move west-northwestward and further strengthen within the next 48 hours.
Kerala is forecast to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next five days, with isolated incidents of strong rainfall expected on November 25th and 26th.
The Central Meteorological Department has also indicated the possibility of isolated light rainfall in parts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts within the next three hours.
