Kerala Weather Update: Heavy Rain Expected with Yellow Alert in Three Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The Meteorological Department has announced that strong rains will continue in Kerala due to an intensified low-pressure area. Yellow alerts have been declared in various districts as part of the 5-day rain forecast. Today, yellow alerts have been issued for three districts: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta. The possibility of heavy rainfall has been predicted, defined as receiving between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in 24 hours.
The cyclonic circulation currently persisting over and near the Kanyakumari sea is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area over the Kanyakumari sea, Sri Lanka, and the southwest Bay of Bengal by tomorrow. This system is expected to strengthen further in the coming days.
Meanwhile, a well-marked low-pressure area that was previously located over the Malacca Strait and the South Andaman Sea is now situated over Malaysia and the Malacca Strait.
Within the next 24 hours, this system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the South Andaman Sea. Subsequently, within the next 48 hours, it is expected to continue its west-northwestward movement and further intensify into a cyclone over the South Bay of Bengal. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is present over the Southeast Arabian Sea.
Kerala is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall for the next 5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is possible from November 24 to 26. Thunderstorms are also likely during this period, from November 24 to 26.
