Kerala Weather Update: Cyclonic Circulation to Bring Severe Rain; Yellow Alert in 8 Districts
Thiruvananthapuram: The weather alert in the state has been revised. The Meteorological Department has announced that heavy rain will continue. Yellow alerts have been declared for various districts in the rain forecast for the next 5 days. Today, a yellow alert has been issued for 8 districts.
The rain warning is for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode districts. The possibility of heavy rainfall has been predicted. Heavy rainfall is defined as precipitation ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
A cyclonic circulation persists over the Southeast Arabian Sea. An upper air cyclonic circulation is also located over the central part of the Strait of Malacca. A new low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal by November 22. This system is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the central South Bay of Bengal by November 24. Furthermore, it is likely to continue its west-northwestward movement and strengthen further over the Southwest Bay of Bengal within the subsequent 48 hours.
Kerala is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next 5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected on November 21, 22, and 23. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms from November 21 to 24. The Central Meteorological Department has stated that light rain is possible in isolated areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki districts of Kerala during the next 3 hours.
