Kerala Sahitya Akademi Awards 2024 Announced; G.R. Indugopan Wins for Novel

The Kerala Sahitya Akademi has announced its prestigious awards for the year 2024. G.R. Indugopan received the award for the best novel, Anitha Thampi for poetry, and V. Shinulal for short story. Veteran writers K.V. Ramakrishnan and Ezhacheri Ramachandran were honored with the Akademi’s Distinguished Membership.

Indugopan’s novel, ‘Aano,’ was selected for the award. Anitha Thampi was recognized for her poem ‘Muringa Vazha Kariveppu,’ and V. Shinulal for his short story ‘Garisappa Aruvi Athava Oru Jalayathra.’

Other award winners include:

Drama: Sasidharan Naduvil
Literary Criticism: G. Dileep
Scholarly Literature: Deepak V.
Biography/Autobiography: Dr. K. Rajashekharan Nair
Travelogue: K.R. Ajayan
Translation: Chinju Prakash
Children’s Literature: E.N. Sheeja
Humorous Literature: Niranjan
The awards consist of ₹25,000, a plaque, and a certificate. The Distinguished Membership includes ₹50,000, a two-sovereign gold medal, a citation, a ponnada (shawl of honor), and a plaque.

The award for Overall Contribution was bestowed upon P.K.N. Panicker, Payyannoor Kunhiraman, M.M. Narayanan, T.K. Gangadharan, K.E.N., and Mallika Younis. This award comprises ₹30,000, a certificate, a plaque, and a ponnada. No work was found eligible for the Vilasini Puraskaram this year.
