Kerala Records ₹19,561 Crore in Liquor Sales for FY 2024-25
State Treasury Earns Over ₹14,800 Crore in Taxes from Alcohol Sale

Kerala’s liquor sales, including beer and wine, amounted to a staggering ₹19,561.85 crore during the 2024-25 financial year. Of this, the Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) remitted ₹14,821.91 crore to the state government as tax revenue from alcohol sales.
The state-owned Travancore Sugars and Chemicals produced 24.75 lakh liters of liquor during the same period. In addition to locally produced alcohol, the state procured liquor worth ₹763.07 crore from external sources.
Since the second Pinarayi Vijayan government assumed power until March 31, 2025, the state exchequer has collected ₹1225.70 crore in bar license fees. The current bar license fee stands at ₹35 lakh. Ernakulam district contributed the highest amount, with ₹304.07 crore. Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram districts followed in second and third places, contributing ₹156.15 crore and ₹134.43 crore respectively.
Kerala also has 45 clubs holding bar licenses, from which the state received ₹41.85 crore in fees between 2021-22 and 2024-25. Currently, there are 19 Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) manufacturing units operating within the state. These details were revealed in a response to an RTI application filed by activist M.K. Haridas.
