Kerala Govt Spends ₹108.21 Crore for Wayanad Landslide Victims’ Rehabilitation

The Kerala government has released figures showing that it has so far spent ₹108.21 crore (approximately $13 million USD) for the victims of the Churulmala and Mundakkai landslide disasters in Wayanad district. The expenditure covers everything from funeral expenses for those who died in the landslides to the acquisition of land for rehabilitation. Revenue Minister K. Rajan revealed these figures at a meeting held at the Wayanad Collectorate regarding landslide rehabilitation.
For the rehabilitation of the affected, ₹43.77 crore was allocated for land acquisition in Elston Estate. Additionally, ₹13.3 crore was provided to the family members of the deceased (220 individuals). As financial aid in lieu of houses, ₹15.6 crore was disbursed to 104 individuals, with each receiving ₹15 lakh.
To support livelihoods, ₹10.1 crore was given to 1133 people, and ₹20 crore was sanctioned for the operations of the Township Special Office. Emergency financial aid amounted to ₹1.3 crore, and ₹4.3 crore was provided for rent. The minister also stated that ₹18.86 lakh was given to those injured and ₹17.4 lakh for funeral ceremonies.
The minister instructed the concerned agencies to complete the township construction in a timely manner. He also directed the use of more machinery for removing landslide debris in Punnapuzha. The government is adopting a sympathetic approach towards the disaster victims. The minister further informed the meeting that ₹3.6 crore has been sanctioned for implementing Kudumbashree’s micro-plan.
