Kerala Electricity Consumers to See Reduced Bills in December

Thiruvananthapuram: Electricity consumers across Kerala are set to receive a significant reduction in their power bills for December, as the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has announced a decrease in the fuel surcharge.

During the period from September to November, consumers were charged a fuel surcharge of up to 10 paise per unit. The latest announcement from KSEB confirms that this surcharge will be substantially reduced for the upcoming December billing cycle.

For consumers who receive monthly electricity bills, the fuel surcharge will now be reduced to 5 paise per unit. Those who receive bi-monthly bills will see a reduction to 8 paise per unit. This change comes as a welcome relief to households and businesses across the state.

The decision to lower the surcharge was made amidst earlier reports suggesting a potential increase following the removal of a previous surcharge cap. Addressing these concerns, the Electricity Minister’s office proactively issued the new announcement.

A note from the Minister reiterated the positive news, stating, “Fuel surcharge reduced. Relief in electricity bill! Fuel surcharge in December’s electricity bill will decrease. For consumers receiving monthly bills, the fuel surcharge will be reduced to 5 paise per unit, and for those receiving bi-monthly bills, it will be 8 paise per unit. From September to November, the fuel surcharge was 10 paise per unit.”

This move by KSEB is expected to provide considerable financial relief to electricity users, mitigating the impact of energy costs during the winter months.
