Kerala Budget 2026: V.S. Centre to be Established in Thiruvananthapuram with Rs 20 Crore Allocation

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal announced in his budget speech that a V.S. Centre will be established in Thiruvananthapuram in memory of former Chief Minister and prominent CPI(M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan. An allocation of Rs 20 crore has been made in the budget for this project, which aims to pass on his legendary life of struggle to future generations.

In a budget that prioritizes development and poverty eradication, 28.5 percent of the scheme allocation for the 2026-27 financial year, amounting to Rs 10,189 crore, has been set aside for the development of local self-governments.

The Minister stated that the government has achieved significant progress in welfare schemes. So far, the government has lifted 1,03,099 individuals from 64,006 families out of extreme poverty.

In addition to providing homes to 4,81,935 families through the Life Mission project, the government has also constructed 3,408 houses for fishermen as part of the Punargeham project.
