Kerala Braces for Widespread Rainfall, Orange Alert Issued for Several Districts Due to Arabian Sea Low Pressure

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is likely to experience widespread rainfall in the coming days due to the influence of a low-pressure area expected to form over the Arabian Sea by Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of the possibility of isolated very heavy and heavy rainfall in various districts, urging the public to remain vigilant. The Malabar region is particularly likely to receive very heavy rainfall.

Today, an orange alert has been declared for the districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, indicating the possibility of isolated very heavy rainfall. A similar orange alert is in place for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts on Tuesday. On Friday, the districts of Pathanamthitta, Idukki, and Ernakulam are also under an orange alert for isolated very heavy rainfall.

The IMD defines very heavy rainfall as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within a 24-hour period. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised residents in the alerted districts to take necessary precautions.
