Kerala Braces for Heavy Rain, Yellow Alert Issued for Multiple Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: A cyclonic circulation has formed over the Gulf of Mannar, extending upwards over the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh. This weather phenomenon is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall across Kerala over the next five days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has specifically warned of isolated strong rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, on September 9th and 10th.

In light of the forecast, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for several districts across the state. The districts under Yellow Alert on September 9th, 2025, include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad. On September 10th, 2025, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts will remain under Yellow Alert.

An isolated strong rain forecast indicates a likelihood of precipitation between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

Furthermore, the IMD has predicted isolated moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts over the next three hours. Light rainfall is also expected in isolated areas of Palakkad district during this period.
