Kerala Braces for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms as Cyclone Montha Intensifies; Yellow Alert Issued for 8 Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in Kerala today. Yellow alerts have been declared across various districts as part of the rain forecast spanning the next five days. Today, eight districts—Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur—are under a yellow alert, indicating the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall.
The Cyclonic Storm Montha has intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm and is currently located over the central-western Bay of Bengal. Simultaneously, a deep depression is situated over the central-eastern Arabian Sea. This depression is anticipated to move in a north-northeasterly direction across the central-eastern Arabian Sea within the next 36 hours. Consequently, Kerala is expected to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers over the next five days.
Furthermore, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that all districts in Kerala could experience moderate rain at isolated places, accompanied by strong winds gusting up to 40 kmph, within the next three hours.
