Kasaragod: Auto-rickshaw driver attempts suicide after school students injured in car accident

Kasaragod: An auto-rickshaw driver attempted to take his own life by consuming acid after mistakenly believing that school students in his vehicle were seriously injured in a road accident. The incident occurred near Bethurpara school when a car collided with the rear of the auto-rickshaw.

The auto-rickshaw was traveling from Bethurpara to Pallanchi when a car, having lost control, struck it from behind. The impact caused significant damage to the rear of the auto-rickshaw, and three students who were passengers sustained injuries. The injured students, identified as Sreehari, Athul, and Adarsh, are Plus One students attending Bethurpara Government Higher Secondary School.

Fearing the students’ injuries were severe, K. Aneesh (40), a resident of Pallanchi and the driver of the auto-rickshaw, consumed acid that was present in his vehicle. The students were subsequently admitted to Chengala E.K. Nayanar Hospital, where medical examinations confirmed their injuries were not serious.

Aneesh is currently in serious condition after consuming the acid and is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru. The car involved in the accident was driven by Bennet, a teacher at Baja Arts and Science College, who also sustained injuries and received preliminary medical attention at Kuttikol.
