Inspector Abhilash David Seeks Action Against MP Shafi Parambil for Defamatory Remarks

Kozhikode: Vadakara Control Room SHO Abhilash David is preparing to initiate legal action against MP Shafi Parambil following remarks made by the MP during a press conference, where David’s photo was displayed. The inspector alleges that the MP made malicious and defamatory statements against him. Abhilash David has formally submitted an application to the Vadakara Rural SP, seeking permission from higher officials to proceed with legal action against the Member of Parliament.

Shafi Parambil’s primary accusation was that Abhilash David assaulted him during a recent conflict. In the press conference, Parambil specifically named the officer, further alleging that David was acting as a “quotation worker” for a political party. The application for legal action, filed by the Circle Inspector, has since been forwarded by the Superintendent of Police (SP) to the Director General of Police (DGP). The officer will only be able to proceed with legal action upon receiving the necessary authorization following due process.

MP Shafi Parambil had substantiated his allegations by presenting visuals of the alleged assault. He claimed that during a conflict in Perambra, there was a deliberate attempt to attack him, and this particular officer not only led the assault but also physically struck him. Parambil further pointed out that Abhilash David had previously been dismissed from service for dereliction of duty and subsequently reinstated, implying a questionable service record. He suggested that such an officer was intentionally brought into the Kozhikode Rural division with malicious intent. The MP had subsequently filed a formal complaint based on these accusations.

During the press conference, Shafi Parambil explicitly stated, “Abhilash David is a police officer who was suspended on January 16, 2023, due to alleged mafia connections. News reports at the time had indicated his dismissal from service. There is currently no additional information about him available on the police website. He, along with two other officers, was reinstated after being dismissed. He is a frequent visitor to the Vanchiyoor CPM Area Committee office. Furthermore, information obtained through the Right to Information Act indicates that records pertaining to dismissed police officers, including David, are not available at the police headquarters. These records are intentionally not being released because such violent police officers were reinstated without public knowledge.”

Following the release of the visuals, the Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC) leadership also lodged a complaint with the DGP. Their complaint demanded action against the officer who allegedly assaulted the MP and against the Vadakara DySP for reportedly escalating the conflict. However, no further action has been taken on this complaint to date.

In protest against the perceived delay in action, the Youth Congress has announced plans to organize a march to the Vadakara DySP’s house tomorrow. An application seeking permission for this march was submitted to Kozhikode Rural SP K. E. Baiju, who has since forwarded the application to the DGP.
