Kochi: ‘ManavaTTy’, India’s first commercially produced indigenous spirit, has garnered international acclaim, securing two significant awards at global competitions. The spirit clinched a Bronze Medal at the London Spirits Competition 2025, organized by the Beverage Trade Network, one of the most prominent networks in the global liquor market. Additionally, it received the ‘Spirit Bronze 2025’ award at the annual International Wine & Spirit Competition.
‘ManavaTTy’ earned these accolades for its high quality, absence of artificial colors, fats, or sugars, and its superior natural attributes.
The spirit is produced by London Baron, a company established in the UK by John Xavier, a native of Kadavanthra, Kochi. This achievement stands out, as ‘ManavaTTy’ surpassed numerous foreign liquor brands to secure its recognition.
What makes ‘ManavaTTy’ popular among international consumers is its entirely natural taste and aroma, free from preservatives or artificial colors. A unique characteristic is its zero sugar content, despite containing starch and fats, which has been a significant advantage. Produced using traditional distillation methods combined with modern facilities, ‘ManavaTTy’ has an alcohol content of 44%. The manufacturing process largely employs local methods for distilling spirits that have been practiced for centuries. Campden BRI, a leading London-based institution for food quality testing, has awarded ‘ManavaTTy’ full marks for its quality.
During the award judging process, the taste of the spirits was a crucial factor, with expert judges making their decisions after tasting each entry. Beyond taste, the spirits’ overall quality, price point, packaging, market potential, and the value offered for the price were also key considerations.
John Xavier, Director of London Baron Limited, stated that this achievement is seen as a reward for successfully introducing traditional indigenous liquor production methods to a global audience. He added that ‘ManavaTTy’ has been envisioned as a popular brand that bar owners, mixologists, and consumers alike will choose and enjoy.
