Heavy Rain Alert for Kerala: Orange Alert in Six Districts, Yellow for Others

Kerala is bracing for widespread heavy rainfall over the next four days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a warning for isolated intense and heavy showers. The public has been advised to exercise caution.

The intensified rainfall is attributed to a cyclonic circulation that has formed over Southern Tamil Nadu and the Gulf of Mannar.

Orange and Yellow Alerts:

• Today (Monday): An Orange Alert has been declared for isolated intense rainfall in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts. All other districts in the state are under a Yellow Alert.
• Tomorrow (Tuesday): Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts will remain under an Orange Alert, while other districts will have a Yellow Alert.
• Wednesday: Intense rainfall is expected in the northern districts. An Orange Alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur districts will be under a Yellow Alert.

The IMD’s forecast indicates that the heavy rainfall will likely subside by Thursday. On Thursday, only Kannur and Kasaragod districts have an intense rain warning, while Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts are under a Yellow Alert.

Wind and Fishing Warnings:

The Central Meteorological Department also stated that isolated areas in Kerala could experience strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour until August 7th.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts from today (Monday) until Thursday. The warning emphasizes that strong winds, with speeds reaching 40 to 50 kmph and occasionally up to 60 kmph, along with rough weather conditions, are highly probable, urging fishermen to remain vigilant.
