Governor’s Powers and Duties Included in Class 10 Textbooks

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister V. Sivankutty has announced that the powers, duties, and legislative functions of the Governor have been incorporated into this year’s tenth-grade textbooks. This move follows an earlier declaration that students studying Social Science Part 2 in Class 10 would be educated on the constitutional rights and powers of the Governor. The Minister confirmed through a Facebook post that these revised textbooks, which include the new sections, have completed printing and have been distributed to schools across the state.

The newly introduced curriculum clarifies that the Governor is not an elected official position, thereby providing students with a crucial understanding of the appointment process and nature of the role. Furthermore, the textbooks delve into Article 356 of the Indian Constitution, an essential provision concerning the imposition of President’s Rule in a state, offering a deeper insight into the Governor’s significant constitutional responsibilities.

Minister Sivankutty highlighted that the Public Education Department has successfully completed this curriculum reform, emphasizing its importance in upholding constitutional objectives. He stated that the sections included are vital lessons that reinforce the principles of the constitution, urging every student to engage with this material. This initiative aims to enhance students’ civic knowledge and understanding of the democratic framework of the country.
