Gold Merchant Dies in Tragic Lift Accident in Kattappana

Kattappana: A prominent gold merchant, Sunny Francis (64), MD of Pavithra Gold, died in a lift accident in Kattappana. The incident occurred around noon on Wednesday. A malfunction in the lift near the jewelry store is believed to have caused the accident.

Sunny Francis had entered the malfunctioning lift to inspect it when it suddenly accelerated upwards, violently striking the top floor and coming to a halt. During this, the power supply to the lift also got cut off.

Despite the efforts of employees who rushed to the scene upon learning of the accident, they were unable to open the lift and rescue Sunny. Fire and Rescue Force personnel from Kattappana later arrived and had to dismantle the lift to extract him. Sunny, who sustained serious injuries, was immediately hospitalized, but his condition worsened, and he passed away around 2 PM.

Preliminary information suggests that a head injury caused by hitting the top of the lift led to his death. Sunny Francis was the Managing Partner of Pavithra Jewellery in Kattappana, Pavithra Gold, and Pavithra Jewellery in Theni. Kattappana Police and the Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene. The body has been moved to a private hospital in Kattappana.
