Family Receives Body of Walayar Mob Lynching Victim Ram Narayan; To Be Taken to Chhattisgarh

Thrissur: The family of Ram Narayan Baghel, who was killed in a mob assault in Walayar, has received his body following assurances of government assistance. The body was transported from Thrissur Medical College to Nedumbassery Airport after 2:30 AM. It has now arrived at Nedumbassery Airport and will be flown to his native place on an 11 AM flight.

Minister K. Rajan announced that strict sections, including those for mob lynching and under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, would be invoked against the accused. He also stated that a recommendation would be made to the cabinet to provide compensation of no less than Rs 10 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. This announcement brought an end to the protest led by Ram Narayan’s wife, Lalita, and their children in front of the medical college mortuary.

Ram Narayan’s body will be flown to his native Raipur today. The government will bear the cost of air tickets for family members and ambulance services from Raipur to their village. The family’s demands were accepted after initial discussions at the official level failed, leading to further talks held at the Collectorate in the presence of Minister K. Rajan and Collector Arjun Pandyan.

Ram Narayan was reportedly assaulted and killed after being asked if he was Bangladeshi. Palakkad District Police Chief Ajith Kumar stated that an investigation would be conducted to determine if the suspicion of him being Bangladeshi was the motive behind the murder.
