Kochi: In a significant development concerning the ‘Save Box’ app scam, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated action against renowned Malayalam actor Jayasurya. The federal agency has provisionally attached assets valued at ₹39 lakh belonging to the actor. This enforcement measure comes after Jayasurya was officially named as an accused in the ongoing investigation into the alleged financial fraud. Jayasurya had previously served as the brand ambassador for the ‘Save Box’ company.
The actor has been subjected to interrogation by the ED on two separate occasions as part of their comprehensive inquiry. Jayasurya’s involvement in the case stemmed from allegations that he actively promoted the Save Box application among the general public, encouraging investments in what later turned out to be a fraudulent scheme. The investigation gained momentum after Jayasurya’s name appeared on a list of individuals who allegedly received laundered money generated through the illicit activities of the Save Box app.
The principal accused in the case, Sathvik Raheem, a resident of Thrissur and the proprietor of the Save Box app, was apprehended by the Thrissur East Police in 2023. The ED’s ongoing investigation is meticulously examining Jayasurya’s association and financial transactions with Sathvik Raheem to ascertain the extent of his involvement in the money laundering scheme.
In response to the allegations, Jayasurya had earlier stated that it is impossible for individuals to foresee potential frauds perpetrated by those who approach them for advertising endorsements. He categorically denied any knowing involvement in the scam, emphasizing his stance as a responsible citizen who conducts all financial dealings in a legitimate manner and adheres strictly to tax regulations. The attachment of his assets underscores the gravity of the charges and the ED’s determination to uncover the full scope of the ‘Save Box’ app scam.
