Drinking Milk Daily May Reduce Risk of Colon Cancer: Study

A study conducted by Oxford University and Cancer Research UK suggests that drinking a glass of milk daily can significantly reduce the risk of colon cancer. According to the research, regular milk consumption plays an important role in lowering the chances of developing the disease.
In the UK, approximately 45,000 cases of colon cancer are reported annually. Research data indicates that adopting a healthy lifestyle can prevent 54% of colon cancer cases. Major risk factors include smoking, lack of exercise, alcohol consumption, eating processed meats, and poor dietary habits.
Oncologists in the UK recommend that, along with drinking milk daily, reducing alcohol and red meat consumption can also help protect against cancer. The study found that consuming 20 grams of alcohol daily (equivalent to a glass of wine) increases cancer risk by 15%, while eating more than 30 grams of red meat daily raises the risk by 8%.
The study, which involved over 54,200 women, collected detailed dietary information, including milk consumption. Milk contains lactose and butyrate-producing beneficial gut bacteria, which promote anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Conjugated linoleic acid, a fatty acid found in meat and dairy products, also contributes to reducing cancer risk.
Experts advise individuals with allergies to milk or dairy products to consult a healthcare professional before making dietary changes.
