Digital Payments Only at Bevco Premium Counters from February 15

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco) has announced that digital payment systems will become mandatory at its premium liquor sales counters across the state. From February 15, 2026, cash transactions will be phased out at these counters, with customers required to use digital methods such as UPI and card payments exclusively.

The Bevco Managing Director has issued a circular instructing all outlets with premium counters to cease accepting cash from the specified date. This move is officially explained as part of the corporation’s broader digitalization and modernization initiatives. Instructions for strict implementation of this order have been disseminated to all districts.

Despite the stated goals, employees at Bevco outlets have expressed concerns that the complete shift to digital transactions could lead to disputes with customers. They fear that potential network disruptions might trigger significant arguments. Additionally, employees noted that a considerable number of customers purchasing liquor typically prefer to maintain confidentiality. The appearance of Bevco transactions on bank statements, for those using Google Pay or cards, could lead to complaints from buyers who wish to keep their purchases discreet.
