DGP Directs Strict Action Against Processions and Events Blocking Public Roads

The Director General of Police (DGP), S. Darvesh Sahib, has issued instructions to district police chiefs to prohibit processions and festival events that obstruct public roads. The DGP emphasized the need to strictly adhere to the High Court’s directives regarding this matter.
The intervention from the DGP follows complaints filed in courts alleging police negligence in enforcing the High Court’s orders.
According to the DGP’s directives, processions must be conducted on only one side of the road, ensuring that the entire roadway is not blocked. Events or activities that completely obstruct public roads will not be permitted. The directive also highlights that such disruptions should not prevent the public from traveling freely.
The High Court had previously criticized the police for failing to take action against political parties that block roads by erecting stages for public meetings. Following this, the police have decided to take strict action against such practices by political parties or any other groups.
