CPM Workers Celebrate Expulsion of V. Kunhikrishnan in Payyannur

Kannur: Following the expulsion of V. Kunhikrishnan from the primary membership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), party workers staged a celebratory demonstration in front of his residence in Vellur, Payyannur. A group of approximately fifteen party members gathered outside Kunhikrishnan’s house, bursting firecrackers and chanting joyous slogans, signaling their approval of the disciplinary action taken against him.

The incident occurred while Kunhikrishnan was not at home; he was reportedly attending the wedding of the daughter-in-law of party martyr Dhanaraj at the Kandoth Koorumba Auditorium.

The decision to expel V. Kunhikrishnan was formally made during a District Committee meeting held on Monday. This move ratified the recommendation put forth by the District Secretariat during its meeting on Sunday. Party leaders justified the expulsion by stating that Kunhikrishnan had engaged in severe disciplinary violations and had consistently made public statements that brought significant disrepute to the party.

During the District Secretariat meeting, Kunhikrishnan faced intense criticism from his colleagues. Leaders alleged that his candid disclosures to the media were a deliberate and calculated effort to undermine and defame the party. A clear majority of the leaders present at the District Secretariat meeting had vocally advocated for stringent action against Kunhikrishnan.

These revelations by District Committee member V. Kunhikrishnan, which placed the CPM on the defensive in Kannur, emerged just months prior to the upcoming Assembly elections. Kunhikrishnan had previously accused a faction within the party of misappropriating funds collected to support the family of party martyr Dhanaraj. He alleged that out of one crore rupees raised, 46 lakh rupees were embezzled by individuals, including Payyannur MLA T.I. Madhusoodanan. Furthermore, Kunhikrishnan claimed that despite presenting evidence to the party leadership, no corrective action was taken.
