CPM to Write to Centre to Freeze PM SHRI MoU; CPI Ministers to Attend Cabinet Meeting

Thiruvananthapuram: The dispute between the CPM and CPI regarding the Central Government’s PM SHRI scheme is moving towards a resolution. The CPI has agreed to the compromise put forward by the CPM. Following this, it is reported that all four CPI ministers will attend the Cabinet meeting scheduled for this evening.

The state government will send a letter to the Centre today itself, requesting to freeze the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in connection with the PM SHRI scheme. It has also been decided to hand over a copy of this letter to the CPI. The CPI had been protesting for the past few days regarding the implementation of the scheme. A temporary solution to this issue has now been found.

A sub-committee will be formed at the Left Democratic Front (LDF) meeting to study the scheme. This committee will examine the MoU and also review the controversial provisions. After this, the CPM has decided to approach the Centre again with suggested changes. The Chief Minister or the Education Minister will explain the decision to write to the Centre.

Meanwhile, the Centre’s stance on the matter is also crucial. It remains to be seen whether the Centre will accept the state’s unilateral withdrawal within a week of signing the agreement.
