Christians Can Decide Election Victories and Defeats: Mar Andrews Thazhath

Thrissur: Despite their smaller numbers, Christians have a significant role in determining electoral outcomes, and in many places, they possess the power to decide election victories and defeats, stated Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI). He made these remarks while inaugurating the Community Awareness Conference of the Thrissur Archdiocese.

Archbishop Thazhath emphasized that the Christian community has contributed substantially to nation-building, proportionate to their population. He announced that 2026 has been designated as the ‘Community Empowerment Year’ with the aim of collectively combating the neglect faced by the community. He urged the community to act with vigilance and wisdom as elections approach.

The Archbishop further stressed the imperative to increase the number of representatives from the Christian community in legislative bodies. He asserted that the welfare of the Christian community can only be ensured by guaranteeing their adequate representation across all four pillars of democracy.
